MATMI II
Jim Thompson / FabricsThe art of 'Matmi' or tie-dye, is one of Thailand's oldest textile traditions, relying entirely on handcrafting techniques by skilled in-house artisans. Through these meticulous processes, the yarns are bound to create the pattern using faux nylon raffia (traditionally banana tree barks) dyed, hung-dried, unbound and then hand-woven into yardage. As a resulting of having to line up each pattern by hand-eye coordination, only about 40 cm of this exquisite type of ikat fabric can be produced each day.
The Matmi Collection beautifully captures the essence of regional artistry and woven mastery, seamlessly translating these traditions into contemporary patterns and designs.
